Cv Restrictor Installation Instructions

Cv restrictors are designed for easy installation. We produce the closely controlled orifice in a small threaded or expansion type Cv Restrictor. The restrictor is then installed in an easy to machine large diameter hole in the customer part. Simple installation instructions for each type of Cv Restrictor are as follows:

Expansion Cv Restrictor

    1. Drill the installation hole to the recommended diameter using a standard drill with a 118° drill point. Additional reaming is not necessary. The "as drilled" surface finish provides for better Cv Restrictor retention and higher differential pressure capability, than does a reamed surface finish.
    2. Inspect the installation hole for proper depth, diameter and verify that it is free of cutting oils, grease and machine chips.
    3. Place the one piece Cv Restrictor assembly into the hole so that it bottoms on the 118° shoulder.
    4. Using a push rod or a Farmington Engineering installation tool, press the expander pin into the Cv Restrictor. The expander pin should be pressed to a flush condition, with a tolerance of +/- .010" (0.25 mm).
    5. Pressing the expander pin into the Cv Restrictor can be accomplished with a hammer or an arbor press and the proper tool. For larger quantity production, stationary or hand-held pneumatic or hydraulic tools are normally used.
    6. Expansion Cv Restrictors are normally capable of a 5,000 psi differential pressure in either direction. Periodic checks of pressure capabilities should be made to verify the installation is correctly accomplished.

Threaded Cv Restrictor

    1. Drill the installation hole to the proper size using a standard tap drill with a 118° drill point. The through hole should be at least .030" smaller than the tap drill to provide the proper shoulder for the threaded Cv Restrictor.
    2. Tap the full depth of the installation hole to the proper thread size using a bottoming tap.
    3. Inspect the installation hole for proper depth, thread size and verify that it is free of cutting oils, grease and machine chips.
    4. Thread the threaded Cv Restrictor into the hole so that it bottoms on the 118° shoulder. The proper hex wrench size is shown in the Cv Restrictor brochure.
